REVIEW: Sorrento Ristorante

Picnik_collage_sorrentos

Tonight we had Pizza:  Gino's Special.

Check out the toppings:  Mozzarella; Sausage; Pepperoni: Green Pepper; Extra Cheese; Onion; Anchovy; Jalapeño; Meatball; Mushroom and Bacon.  This special puts the Pizza Hut Supreme Pizza to shame.

Always the pizzas are a bit greasy but I like that in a pizza. Toppings were fresh and plentiful.

They still have no website.

PS:  Review from 2009 is here

PPS:  Spurs General Manager RC Buford was the celebrity in the house tonight.

PPPS:  I am counting this as a stop on my Tour de Broadway even though I have been here plenty of times.

MOM'S MINI-VACA

Moms_trip_351

Pix are here and here.

So my mom has retired after 34 plus years at the same job.  Can you imagine being at the same place you work now for 34 years?  I've been at my current job for 10 years but even I know it won't last forever.  LOL.

So now she has all kinds of spare time to come visit.  In fact she stayed the longest she has ever stayed with us here in SATX:  four nights. LOL.  Mom also learned the meaning of LOL while down here.

Mom has done all the obligatory touristy things on previous trips to San Antonio so the Alamo; Tower of the Americas; Riverwalk; etc, have all been done so we looked for new stuff for her to do.

We went to San Antonio Rose Live at the Aztec Theater. If you like old-timey country music, this show is for you. Mom enjoyed every bit of the two hour performance and clapped and sang along to almost every song.  The Aztec theater has been fully restored to it's old glory from it's old porn theater status.

Of course we hit a Spurs game.  These tix courtesy of HEB.  Mom loves the Spurs so this is always a highlight to her trips here.

Mom had a series of first while down here this time.  Mom lives in Portales, New Mexico and although it is a college town of 14,000, the tumble weeds out-number the cultural experiences she can find there.

She had her first taste of Thai food.  She loved it and would order it again next time just not as spicy.

She also went to the movie theaters, twice while down here.  She said she had not been to the movies since Titanic.  We took her to see Alice in Wonderland @ Palladium IMAX in 3D.  She loved it. She loved Johnny Depp.  She loved his dance.

We also went to see Crazy Heart at Santikos Bijou.  Mom was impressed with the dine-in service.

Mom also got to taste bubble tea for the first time.  This is a weekly treat for me and she enjoyed it immensely as well.

The Chow Chows are creatures of routine and become fussy and nervous when there are guests.  They seem to do fine with her then out of the blue will notice her and bark.  Weirdos.

Mom made us breakfast on Sunday:  homemade fresh tortillas; papas; red chile and huevos. Mmm Mmm.

So Mom, come back again real soon for a visit.  Maybe this time you can stay five nights. LOL.

PS:  Mom got to meet S sister Shirley.  Shirley is camera shy but they got along famously at the Spurs game.

REVIEW: My Own New Mexico Style Stacked Enchiladas

Img_4034

In order to expand my stomach for tomorrow's gorge fest, tonight I feast on a steamin' greasy plate of enchiladas.

With New Mexico red chile sauce; big chunks of chuck hamburger meat and a trio of assorted shredded cheese all stacked (estilo Nuevo Mexicano) on corn tortillas, this meal tonight served it's purpose.  Side splitting good.

With a side of jalapeno tamales from Delicious Tamales, review to follow tomorrow, this meal was oh so good.  I had to roll myself to the living room for the Spurs game.

REVIEW: Earl Abel's

Again, was trying to make it to Thousand Oaks Restaurant on Austin Highway but there was not ONE open parking spot.  By default we ended up at Earl Abel's.

Papas were dry.  Pork Chop was thin. Grape Jelly? Eggs were dry.

Highlight of the breakfast was a Brent Barry sighting.  Who knew he still lived in San Antonio.  I wanted to say Hi and maybe get a picture with him but in the end didn't want to disrupt his family time.

Brent is tall.  Duh?

PIX & THOUGHTS FROM THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS HOME OPENER VS NEW ORLEANS #SATX #NBA 10-28-09

Spurs_opener_361

How good was this team last night???  Seriously---the Spurs rocked my socks off.

Pix are here.

Matt Bonner, Michael Finley and Roger Mason were on fire from three point land.

Always a pleasure to see Manu Ginobili back in action.

Tony Parker totally had his way with that little guard from New Orleans.

Tim Duncan---well Tim Duncan was consistently Tim Duncan.

DeJuan Blair has my vote for rookie of the year.

Richard Jefferson struggled early but kept Peja from being effective.

The bench.  Oh my, the bench is DEEP!!!  30 to zero advantage at half-time is incredible.

The drive for five is alive.  This will make for an interesting season.  The off-season changes appear to have been successful

Go Spurs Go.

Spurs 113 - Hornets 96

Thanx for a great start to a great new season.

PS:  How do you take a picture of a glow in the dark t-shirt??

REVIEW: San Antonio Spurs Open Practice Sunday

Spurs_open_practice_sunday_018

Pix are here.

So today we headed over to the Spurs Open Practice at AT&T Center:  sweet!!!!

I am so excited about the new season.  Everyone looks super healthy and I think our bench has great depth.  There is much potential in this current line-up with just a few kinks to iron out.

It was great to see so many people there.  It looked like almost the entire lower bowl was full of people.  San Antonians love their Spurs.

Free tickets to three pre-season games was a plus as was the chance to win great seats for the season opener against New Orleans.

Timmy Duncan in a three-point contestant that he wasn't prepared for was fun to see.

The crowd was wild for Manu Ginobli.

Great seats we were in---I can only dream to have seats like this during the regular season.

So excited for the new season to start:  Go Spurs Go!!!
