REVIEW: Longhorn Steakhouse

So had to wait 'till the new restaurant furor died down before we could try out the newest joint to hit San Antonio. Funny how a restaurant called Longhorn Steakhouse only has two locations in all of Texas and both are in San Antonio? This chain restaurant based out of Atlanta has a western-themed ambiance. Most locations are in the Southeast part of the nation.

I'm a big ribeye steak guy and of course didn't even really look at any other part of the menu but the ribeye section. I had the Outlaw Ribeye which it turns out is 18oz of bone-in, fire grilled, made of awesome goodness.  It was only a buck more than the 12oz regular ribeye.  This medium steak was very tasty and cooked to near perfection. Just a bit too much fat but then again a good ribeye is marble well with fat.

The side of sweet potato with butter and cinnamon was good but was puny in sized compared to the giant ribeye. Guess sweet potatoes aren't quite in season yet.

The meal also came with the house salad. It was well prepared and tasty.

The meal was actually very reasonably priced.  In comparison, the lunch meal we had Saturday @ Ilsong Gardens, previously reviewed here last November, had a more expensive tab. Weird huh for Korean food to be more expensive than steak?

I would recommend this restaurant highly. The wait staff were friendly and helpful, the ambiance was very pleasant and the food was really good. I shall be back there soon.

REVIEW: Outback Steakhouse in the Forum

I already forget where it was we were headed but we ended up at Outback Steakhouse tonight.

You can't go wrong w/ Blue Moon Beer.  Love their giant mug.

Appetizer, the bloomin' onion, already documented here in my first Instant Review:  greazzzy.

House Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing: very tasty and fresh.

Medium Rib-eye Steak:  too well marbled.  Big glob of fat dead center of the steak made it instantly, almost, unappetizing.  When I dug around the fat I was happy with the actual taste of the steak.  Juicy and full of flavor.

Balloon Man, I guess his name was probably Bruce, was fluent in Spanish and rattled off the list of objects and animals he could create.  He was telling all of this to the three year old across the aisle and not to me.  Boo---I wanted to see if he could make a Chow Chow balloon doggy dog?

REVIEW: The Barn Door Restaurant #saladdressingtweetup

Got invited to this #saladdressingtweetup at the Barn Door on North New Braunfels and since it's just down the street from me, I had no excuse not to attend.

Met @Janellerp; @bkearney and @MomonMars and had a great time. These girls were a lot of fun and are a must follow on Twitter.

Had the rib eye steak and it was full of flavor.  Last time I was at this restaurant the rib eye steak was not as tasty but tonight it was melt in your mouth delicious.  I ordered the smaller rib eye but as you see it filled my entire plate.  Everything at this restaurant is of a generous portion.

But of course we came here for the salad dressing.  I made the mistake of calling it Green Goddess to the waitress.  The correct name is Creamy Garlic dressing and of course it is divine. Bernice called it Happiness on a Plate when accompanied by the handmade rolls as tweeted here.

This restaurant is definitely a mainstay in San Antonio.  Prices are reasonable and I recommend you try this place if you have not been lately.

REVIEW: SALT GRASS STEAK HOUSE

Way too hot to grill steak outside but in the mood for savory grilled steak?  Quandary?  Nope---head to Salt Grass Steak House.  Usually.

We won a free appetizer w/ some promotion they were running for return visits.  We had the Fried Mushrooms cuz S doesn't like Spinach dip or Jalapeno Poppers.  Boo.  The mushrooms were good but filling.

Img_1432

Ordered the salad w/ dressing on the side.  As you can see the dressing was not on the side.  Well on the side of the plate---most unappetizing.

Always I seem to have the medium Rib Eye Steak w/ Garlic Mashed Potatoes.  Usually it's good.  Today, not so much.  Mine had a hard char on the outside and more medium rare than medium for my liking. The Garlic Mashed Potatoes were cold.

No dessert for me. Even though I had only really eaten half my steak and the salad and mushrooms, I hit a wall and was super full.

Last time I was here it was good.  See here for that review. So next time I guess I will pull out the grill; head over to Central Market HEB and pick out some most excellent rib eye steaks, invite my Twitter friends, and have a party in my backyard. Seriously.  Next time for sure.

And as always, the super spoiled; still moist from their bath today; takes a day for them to fully dry chow chows got left-overs.  Bossanova thanked me with a big wet kiss. Bluto was camera shy today but he ate his fair share.
