The one where Michael makes corn tortillas from scratch.

Dscn0564

So with all the reality cooking shows I watch on TV, I decided I better work on my signature dish should I ever be fortunate enough to be on one of those crazy shows.  Still not sure if my signature dish is stacked enchiladas or stuffed sopaipillas but I decided I better learn how to make corn tortillas from scratch. I would be booted off a show for sure if I used store-bought corn tortillas.

First I had to find a tortilla press.  I never learned how to make corn tortillas from my mom because she never made them from scratch.  She can make the heck out of from scratch flour tortillas so I guess it's a New Mexican thing.

#GreenChile Hatch Green Chile (yet even more)

Picnik_collage
My fave time of year but you already knew that as much as I blah blah blah about Hatch Green Chile.

Saturday I had Green Chile Breakfast Casserole which unfortunately was not that good.

Tonight I will nom nom on this Green Chile Brownie from HEB Central Market.

And by far the best way to consume Green Chile is just to plop a heaping mess mixed w/ garlic salt on a warm tortilla.  Again, nom nom nom.

INSTANT REVIEW: HEB Dr. B. (Sweetened with Pure Cane Sugar)

Heb
With the throwback craze happening with other sodas, it was eventual that HEB would get into the game.  Dammit HEB.  Only $2.99 for a twelve-pack and I was sold.

Dr. Pepper is my caffeine distribution system of choice so I had never tried the Dr. B brand prior to this purchase.  I am brand loyal to a fault.

This stuff was pretty good.  It tasted just like a genuine Dr. Pepper and had I done a blind taste test, I am certain I would not have known the difference.

PS:  I would purchase this again.

REVIEW: HEB Central Market Sandwich Counter.

#4 on the Tour de Broadway

I am falling way behind on my little project. Late lunch today fixed all of that.

Stopped into HEB Central Market for a cake.  Tomorrow is S BDay and I'm not much in the mood for baking.

Stopped by the sandwich counter and had the Broadway Roast Beef.

Preperation took longer than I cared for but when I sunk my teeth into this panini, it was an explosion of flavor.

The roast beef was fresh.  Onions grilled just right.  Horseradish, OMG.  Every ingredient was layered just perfectly with the next ingredient.  I ate it all up, and quickly too.

PS:  I will return for more soon.

REVIEW: Pralinutta Duo

So you already know my pre-occupation with the chocolate hazelnut spread called Nutella, but I have found another product that just might take the place of my usual morning snack.  Found Pralinutta Duo next to the Nutella in the peanut butter aisle of my Lincoln Heights Grocery Store.

It looks like nutella but would it taste like nutella??  Gosh darn-it, it did.  And this tasty spread was less expensive too.

I totally recommend it for your mid morning pick-me-up snack.  Mine was on H-E-B French Toast bread.  Yummy.

REVIEW: Left-overs- Spaghetti with Pinot Grigio and shrimp.

Img_001348

There is just something about left-overs and today's sampling is no different: Spaghetti w/ Pinot Grigio & shrimp.

Took forever last night to peel and de-vein the shrimp. Tedium is not a friend of mine. But fresh is always best.  The recipe called for clams as well but Lincoln Heights HEB did not have any fresh claims in their seafood department??  So I thought I would substitute mussels but the ones they tried to sell me were dead or dying.  Such sad attention to detail in that fish market. So a double order of shrimp it was to be then.

Shallots; garlic; sun-dried tomatoes & arugula round out the dish's components.  Oh yeah---and Pinot Grigio.

This meal was quite tasty and easy to prepare except for the prep of the shrimp.  And of course, even better the next day.

Sopping up bread was Hatch Green Chile Demi Baguette.  Awesome.
