REVIEW: Joseph's Storehouse

Mom was in town last weekend and her adventures were documented here

Mom hates going to restaurants where you place your order at the counter and basically serve yourself.  Joseph's Storehouse on North Saint Mary's & Mulberry is such a place.  Oh well, it was my birthday and I got to choose the breakfast place.  Like I was 'gonna cook on my birthday?

By the time we got there, close to 10A, the place was fairly empty.  I know this place can get really busy so as it turns out, this was the perfect time to eat. Doesn't mom look as pretty as those Gerber Daisies on the table?

I had the Joseph's Breakfast:  Two eggs any style, crisp bacon, homemade hash brown potatoes, & two slices of whole wheat toast.  My bacon seemed to be bacon bits rather than slices and slightly over-done but everything else on my plate was mighty tasty.  Although I did not take pictures of the other food at the table, everyone agreed that their meal was the best there that morning.

WEEK FIVE: Square Foot Gardening #squarefootgarden

Mom was in town this weekend to see George Strait in concert so we were a busy lot. Check out her adventures here but my square foot gardening waits for no one.

My garden is doing very well as we enter week Five.  The weather remains moderate but I brace myself for those 100 degree summer days soon upon us.

I am dissapointed in some squares as they just did not germinate. I may replace those dead squares w/ actual plants from the Homo Depot.

I should have bought Heirloom Seeds.

MOM'S MINI-VACA

Pix are here and here.

So my mom has retired after 34 plus years at the same job.  Can you imagine being at the same place you work now for 34 years?  I've been at my current job for 10 years but even I know it won't last forever.  LOL.

So now she has all kinds of spare time to come visit.  In fact she stayed the longest she has ever stayed with us here in SATX:  four nights. LOL.  Mom also learned the meaning of LOL while down here.

Mom has done all the obligatory touristy things on previous trips to San Antonio so the Alamo; Tower of the Americas; Riverwalk; etc, have all been done so we looked for new stuff for her to do.

We went to San Antonio Rose Live at the Aztec Theater. If you like old-timey country music, this show is for you. Mom enjoyed every bit of the two hour performance and clapped and sang along to almost every song.  The Aztec theater has been fully restored to it's old glory from it's old porn theater status.

Of course we hit a Spurs game.  These tix courtesy of HEB.  Mom loves the Spurs so this is always a highlight to her trips here.

Mom had a series of first while down here this time.  Mom lives in Portales, New Mexico and although it is a college town of 14,000, the tumble weeds out-number the cultural experiences she can find there.

She had her first taste of Thai food.  She loved it and would order it again next time just not as spicy.

She also went to the movie theaters, twice while down here.  She said she had not been to the movies since Titanic.  We took her to see Alice in Wonderland @ Palladium IMAX in 3D.  She loved it. She loved Johnny Depp.  She loved his dance.

We also went to see Crazy Heart at Santikos Bijou.  Mom was impressed with the dine-in service.

Mom also got to taste bubble tea for the first time.  This is a weekly treat for me and she enjoyed it immensely as well.

The Chow Chows are creatures of routine and become fussy and nervous when there are guests.  They seem to do fine with her then out of the blue will notice her and bark.  Weirdos.

Mom made us breakfast on Sunday:  homemade fresh tortillas; papas; red chile and huevos. Mmm Mmm.

So Mom, come back again real soon for a visit.  Maybe this time you can stay five nights. LOL.

PS:  Mom got to meet S sister Shirley.  Shirley is camera shy but they got along famously at the Spurs game.

RIP Tommy Montoya 1946-2006

Tommy didn't have to be my dad, I mean he only married my mom and I came along for the ride. But he was my dad until cancer took his too young life in 2006.

Happy Birthday today and Rest in Peace Tommy.  I love you. Thank you for taking care of my mom.

Pix of the funeral luncheon are here.  He loved the yellow LIVESTRONG bracelet so much we ordered several hundred and gave them out to friends and family alike.  Some of us still wear it to this day.

PS:  First pix is from 2002 when Tommy was healthy and still had some meat on him.  Yes I am the giant of the family.

PPS:  Second Pix is me and my bro @TMarkM and my mother as we visit his grave Thanksgiving 2006.

PPPS:  Third Pix is my brother Mark and Tommy circa Xmas 2005.  Tommy was already visibly ill in this photo.

PPPPS:  Song is Lonely Letters by Tiny Morrie.  Tommy loved his old New Mexican Artists Spanish Songs but this one is sung in English and always reminds me of his sister Geraldine.
