I'm down to 201 lbs and I feel great.  The holidays were rough but now I'm back on track and just 16 lbs from my goal.  I can see my body transforming before my eyes.  I'm even tucking my shirt into my pants again.  I'm down from a size 40 pant to a size 34 and even the size 34 is a bit big in the butt.   There ain't no stopping me now.

There has been a lot of talk lately of the 1% versus the 99% but I'm here to introduce a different percentage:  10%.  Woohoo!  I hit my first goal on my weight loss journey.  I have lost 10% of my body weight in 12 weeks.  23 pounds total.

 I now have a healthier heart; lower risk of Type 2 Diabetes; more pep; more self-confidence and motivation.  In addition I feel sexxxy and ready to take on the world.  I have another 20 or so pounds to lose but there is no stopping me now.  I love it.

To be honest I was still full from my LAST LUNCH and was not really hungry for supper.  I had planned to find a steak house for supper and eat a giant and juicy Rib Eye.  Lunch left me well sated. 

I decided I wanted to have a slice of pie so EARL ABELS was the place for my last supper. 

Fried chicken to go with that slice of black bottom pie.  I stopped at a convenience store on the way home because I was craving a Pepsi.  I was sated for the second time today.

Tomorrow I diet.

For about a month, I have been asking my work wives:  AB, AS, AVR and VG for copies of their fave recipes.  I wanted to try them out and blog about the experience.  My Work Wives let me down.

So as I was cleaning out my cookbook shelf in my kitchen, I remembered that we found a cookbook in this house when it was purchased in 2000.  I guess it was a gift from the old owners to the new owners.  A bottle of wine would have been nice.

This old Good Housekeeping Cook Book is from 1962.  I had always meant to try a recipe from this book and my Work Wives have given me an opportunity to test my old-timey skills.

S loves Coconut Cake so I found a recipe in this dusty tome to try.  There was some kind of food stain from 1962 on that exact recipe so I took this as a sign that this was the recipe I was to make today.

So the cake was a breeze to make especially since I had a handy dandy hand mixer.  Guess those hand mixers were expensive in 1962 like a pocket calculator was in 1982, since the book kept urging me to use one, else have to beat for 100 strokes at a time.

How does it taste?  It was alright.  I thought it would be more moist since it had a wallop of shortening.  I think next time I will just get the Coconut Cake from Costco or Sams Club.  Those cakes are just as good and less time consuming.  

PS:  AS redeemed herself and handed me her recipe soon after I announced what I was naming this recipe.  That will be attempted very soon.  It has something to do with balls. 

PPS:  Still need those recipes from AB, AVR and VG.  Andale.

I grew up on Hatch green chile burgers and when I moved to Texas 18 years ago, I had to switch to jalapeño burgers.

This burger is a start. Thank you Whataburger.

Everyone already knows how I heart Hatch Green Chile so I always find a way to get involved with HEB Central Market's Hatch Festival.  Last year I was a finalist in this very prestigious and important recipe contest but this year I was invited to participate as a judge.  The post from last year is here. PS:  I learned that HEB is the largest retailer for Hatch Green Chile in the whole United States.  Wowza. 

PPS:  I learned that HEB now carries an extra-hot Hatch green chile.  Wowza. 

PPPS:  I learned that it's a lot less pressure being a judge than a contestant. This was a lot more fun but next year I want to work on a recipe again. 

PPPPS:  The winner from last year was there as a judge as well:  Adele Williams.
