REVIEW: SoLuna
You know that scene in Evita where Madonna -er- Evita goes to the polo club, I felt like that a little bit tonight when I went to Soluna on Broadway. Everyone but us seemed to be wearing their fine summer linen. I guess you get that when the restaurant is in Alamo Heights. I felt like I should have walked in the back door with the kitchen help. This feeling was all my Sh*t because the wait staff were very friendly and made us feel right at home and the diners could have cared less how casual we were dressed. Hey, it was a Sunday after all.
Last time I was at this joint it was a Chuy's. Yeah I know that was ages ago but to be honest I knew this place was a sister restaurant to a place I have never really enjoyed: El MiraSol so I never cared to find out about the cuisine.
Tonight as I fulfill a Tour de Broadway requirement, I was in for a good culinary experience.
I had the shrimp enchiladas with cilantro creme including plantains and white rice. The presentation was excellent. First impressions count and I was enamored with this beautiful plate but my first bite into the enchilada and I had a mouth full of fishy fish. My second and subsequent bites and all was redeemed. The dish was very tasty. The cilantro sauce was very nice. I must have the recipe.
OK I will say it, this place was pricey. As a Latino I know how simple Mexican recipes really are so you needn't charge me $17 for two enchiladas even when they are shrimp enchiladas. These are desperate times so we need to be more aware of our pocketbook. Perhaps I will try this place for lunch again but for now I need to put myself on a financial diet and eat out only for special occasions. I'm a pretty good cook after all.
