LET THE HATCH GREEN CHILE GOOD TIMES ROLL #GREENCHILE
I moved to San Antonio 16 years ago and HEB Central Market started their Hatch Chile Fest 16 years ago. Coincidence? I think not. I'm sure the fine folks at HEB knew a New Mexican was coming to town and he would be feening for some green chile. Thank you HEB. I greatly appreciate your gesture.
The question we all ask this time of year: how hot is this year's crop? My answer is hot. No problem, just buy hot and mild and mix them together for medium. Problem solved. But honestly, I love 'em hot.
So now comes the great ritual of buying bushels and bushels of green chile and stocking the freezer for winter consumption but nothing beats freshly roasted chile.
Please get your butt to the nearest Central Market and get your green chile fix. They have burgers and sausage and cakes and scones and soups---all laden with fresh green chile. You have until the end of this month to enjoy.
